What is the Library of Congress Classification System?
Answer
The Library of Congress (LC) Classification System is a system for organizing library materials. Students may be familiar with another classification system, the Dewey Decimal System, which is used primarily in public and k-12 school libraries. The LC System groups books on the same subject together. Each items is assigned a call number, which consists of a combination of letters and numbers. The letters and numbers are uniquely coded and contain information about the books subject, publication date and even the author.
